Much
of the creative energy that young artists traditionally would have
put into actual literature in the past, is now manifested in music
lyrics. Today, those same creative people have a much better outlet
and more interesting possibilities in music. But they are still making
the same artistic observations about the world that they see. (My
definition of what an artist should be doing as a profession- Go
out and observe the world, report back to me your findings, your
feelings, your interpretation. That report may take the form of music
or a painting, or a book or a sculpture. If I like your take on things
enough, I'll buy your stuff- you have a job. If not enough people
like your take on things, then you'll go broke. You suck as an artist,
go sell insurance or something). They just package the messages differently.
Instead of a few hundred pages, they need to convey the message in
just a few stanzas. Sure a lot of it is crap, but a lot of it is
just amazing.
Anyway, I think there are tons of literature-like observations, in
tiny little pieces throughout music lyrics today. Hence- Literature
Droppings. Or- Lit Drops.

The Stairs
In a room above a busy street
The echoes of a life
The fragments and the accidents
Separated by incidents
Listen to by the walls
We share the same spaces
Repeated in the corridors
Performing the same movements
Storey to storey
Building to building
Street to street
We pass each other on the stairs
Storey to storey
Building to building
Street to street
We pass each other on the stairs
Listen to by the walls
We share the same spaces
Repeated in the corridors
Performing the same movements
The nature of your tragedy
Is chained around your neck
Do you lead or are you lead
Are you sure that you don't care
There are reasons here to give your life
And follow in your way
The passion lives to keep your faith
Though all are different, all are great
Climbing as we fall
We dare to hold on to our fate
And steal away our destiny
To catch ourselves
With quiet grace
Storey to storey
Building to building
Street to street
We pass each other on the stairs
Listen to by the walls
We share the same spaces
Repeated in the corridors
Performing the same movements
Storey to storey
Building to building
Street to street
We pass each other on the stairs
